Kitler Chronicles

Alex the cat--otherwise known as Kitler because of his (crooked) mustache--displays behavior unlike that of other cats I've had. Usually, we're able to keep it in check, but the latest problem is perplexing us.
Ongoing issue: He's always hungry. He stalks us by the food bowl and sometimes takes swipes at your legs if you attempt to walk by without addressing his need. And he eats way too fast, which makes him throw up frequently. We've tamed this somewhat by putting only small amounts of food in his bowl.
Other issues: He likes to get in the bathtub with Evan. Not really sure he got the memo that cats aren't supposed to like water. Also, he has terrible balance (another memo about cats he likely missed). And when he was a kitten, he was very friendly, but in his later years he's grown grumpy and dislikes house guests. He shows his disapproval by growling and sometimes biting them. Charming.
Latest issue: This is the most worrisome--he's taken to chewing on electrical cords. Not sure what this is about other than some desperate plea for attention, but we've got to figure out something to make him stop. Suggestions? I was thinking of rubbing something on the cords that tastes bad, but not sure what that should be.

  1. A couple of ideas that I have read in the past include rubbing bath soap on the cords (but may make Alex sick) or bitter apple spray (sold at pet store for this type of situation). I also saw a suggestion of putting down sticky paper (sticky side up) where the cords lay. This wouldn't work too well with visible exposed cords as it would be pretty ugly. Last option, shave the protective plastic housing so that the wires are exposed. That should stop him, no doubt.

  2. thanks--i'm totally checking out the apple spray if the soap doesn't work. that is, if i can try these options out before daddymark attempts your last suggestion, which i know he'd prefer.
