City of Grey Gardens houses



As Part 2 of my obsession with Grey Gardens, there's a site devoted to abandoned houses in Detroit. Check out the slide show here. I could stare at any one of the 100 houses in these photographs for hours (especially the one at the top here), thinking about all of the people who might have lived there, walked in and out the doors, opened the windows, cooked breakfast. I find it mesmerizing. These old homes, in the way they were captured by the photographer, seem to embody a certain dignity even still.

  1. I've seen lots of these houses on my trips to Detroit. Fascinating and sad at the same time. They definitely represent the city's dignity and often troubled history...
